Aloha Ladies,
  • Please scroll down on this blog page to find Aunty Kaili's message to us on what to bring to class and what we should be practicing.
  • Let's be ready so Aunty Kaili can review and teach us new things.
  • Street parking is difficult with the gym next door having a lot of practices and tournaments.  A few suggestions, you may park in our Queen Street parking lot (reserved all day Saturday and Sunday for WOLCC) or at the Waterfront towers across the street--free all day.

New Performing Arts Hula Ministry

Please read the message below.  Hope to see you soon.  Any questions, please call Kathleen, 223-3484.
Hula Ministry Vision:
To promote a heart of worship that desires to be an expression of God’s anointing through the art of dance.

Goals:
  • To appreciate and flow in unity by committing to each other and fellowshipping in Word & prayer.
  • To discipline the mind and body through core exercise, coordination, and choreography by adapting to modified-versions of Polynesian dance.
  • T o acquire the skills and technique of a polished dance-minister through unconventional methods and spiritual direction.
  • To dance as ONE in worship.
Method:
This session is structured on a three-part lesson rotation:
o   Polynesian & Hula Basics
o   Ministry Hula Basics
o   Ministry Choreography
There will only be one class per Saturday from 8:30-10am.  The class lesson will focus on one of the above lessons.  Participants are encouraged to attend every Saturday, despite their level of hula experience or preference.  We believe this strategy will provide the depth necessary to build a strong foundation for our ministry and to attain our goals.  However, please remain open and flexible, should there be a change in method.
Brief Class Descriptions:
Polynesian & Hula Basics – This class is training in core movements, body coordination, and simple choreography of Tahitian, Maori, Instruments, and hula.
Ministry Hula Basics – This class is designed to teach the ministry style of hula (an adaptation of traditional hula) for example dancing as a line with “clean” hands & arm movements, “angles,” “leans,” posture, “weight-placement” and other subtle details that make the hula ministry team flow as ONE.
Ministry Choreography – The pre-requisite for this class is attending the other two basic classes. The purpose of this class is to enhance your worship time with God.  The class will include a time of learning lyrics, singing, reflecting, and visualizing the heart of the song in order to connect with the choreography.  The choreography should be rooted in us to give God the liberty to flow through us.
